NEW REGULATIONS ON VISA EXEMPTION FOR JAPANESE CITIZENS

Japanese citizens are now exempt from Vietnam visa for 45 days

The visa-waiver program for Japanese citizens entering Vietnam has been adjusted and extended, marking a significant step forward in the relationship between the two countries and creating favorable conditions for promoting cooperation and tourism between the two countries.

Previously, Japanese citizens could enter Vietnam and be exempt from visa for 15 days, and each entry was granted visa exemption for the same period of time. However, from August 15, 2023, the Vietnamese government decided to extend the visa-waiver and visa exemption period to 45 days for Japanese citizens in particular and citizens of countries currently enjoying Vietnam’s unilateral visa waiver regime, in order to expand the potential for economic, cultural, and tourism cooperation between the two countries.

This change is considered to be a positive move by Vietnam in attracting tourists from Japan. Japan has always been one of Vietnam’s important partners, and the number of tourists from this country contributes significantly to Vietnam’s tourism industry. The extension of the visa-waiver and visa exemption period will help Japanese tourists have more opportunities to explore Vietnam, experience the diverse culture, as well as learn about the history and people of the S-shaped country.

In addition, the strengthening of relations between the two countries also contributes positively to the promotion of economic cooperation. Japan and Vietnam both have strong economies and great potential for development. The visa waiver and visa exemption will facilitate trade, investment, and multilateral cooperation, opening up new opportunities for businesses and investors from both countries.

This also creates opportunities to support the tourism industry as Vietnam gradually recovers its economy. Attracting international tourists to Vietnam, especially from a trusted partner like Japan, will help to increase revenue for tourism businesses and maintain employment for the people.

However, it is important to note that visa waiver and visa exemption should not be abused and that immigration control regulations should be maintained to ensure national security and public order.

The decision of Vietnam to extend the visa waiver and visa exemption period for Japanese citizens is a notable, strategic step that reflects the good relations between the two countries. It is hoped that this will promote multifaceted cooperation and create new opportunities for both sides in many fields, while contributing to the creation of a stronger and more prosperous regional community.
